Israeli authorities has initiated a call for crowd source mapping of air-raid shelters on Google Maps, as well as in the form of softwares for use by other applications.
Availability of such information useful for many local councils and municipalities to perform well in emergency.
Volunteers have already pooled in their spare time to translate the information published on the websites of local councils and municipalities into data that could be used by various applications.
The initiative aims to convert the incomplete information available on the Internet in the form of graphic files or images into a database of addresses and locations, which would then be entered into map applications, such as Google Maps.
According to Stern, the Tel Aviv municipality is the only local authority in the country that has publicized the location of municipal air-raid shelters in the form of a well-organized Excel file, which can be converted into a digital format.
