Timmons Group Announces Webinar on Leveraging the AWS Cloud for Local Government GIS

Timmons Group, a leading provider of geospatial solutions, announced their next webinar in November titled, “Leveraging the AWS Cloud for Local Government GIS.” The webinar will be held on Thursday, November 17th from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. EST and will be presented by Vish Uma, a Senior Software Engineer in Timmons Group’s Geospatial division.
This webinar will focus on ho¬w local governments can leverage various cloud computing resources. Vish will talk about the various options available for running ArcGIS server in the cloud and how to go about selecting the best approach for local government organizations. He will also address concerns like connecting to data in the cloud, moving data in and out of the cloud and providing citizens with access to public datasets at minimal costs.
Running GIS services for a local government brings opportunities and also challenges. Cloud computing provides managed IT services and reduces the overhead required to keep system operations. It can help offset costs and enable movement to newer hardware. Managed services like Relational Database Service (RDS) and Simple Storage Service (S3) can help reduce the number of systems that the IT department is responsible for managing and maintaining.
About the Presenter
Vish Uma has considerable experience in designing, building and implementing custom GIS application solutions. Vish is responsible for developing custom applications, internet applications, displaying, modifying and analyzing GIS data for public and private sector clients. He is also an experienced software developer, software engineer and systems analyst. Vish has served as the lead architect on several projects that serve both statewide and national extents.
