Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority Embraces Technology: Digital Master Plan for Dehradun Until 2041
The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has prepared a digital master plan for Dehradun till the year 2041. The master plan is a blueprint for the city’s development, and it outlines the strategies and policies that will guide the city’s growth and development in the coming years.
The digital master plan has been prepared with the aim of making Dehradun a sustainable and livable city. It takes into account the city’s existing infrastructure, land use patterns, and environmental factors, and it proposes measures to address the city’s current and future needs.
The master plan has been prepared after extensive consultation with various stakeholders including the public, government agencies, and experts in the fields of urban planning, architecture, and environmental conservation. It is a comprehensive document that sets out a clear vision for the city’s development and provides a roadmap for achieving that vision.
In this, objection has also been sought from the residents of Dehradun. Dehradun residents have till April 30 to file their concerns. Following the resolution of any objections, a new master plan will be adopted. This Geographical Information System (GIS) based digital master plan depicts the city’s land. In addition, buffer zones have been established to safeguard them from the occupancy of land mafia.
The digital master plan also includes detailed information on government structures, as well as where private buildings have been constructed. In this proposed Digital Master Plan, MDDA has defined numerous categories, including National Highway, Major City Road, Metro Alignment, Ropeway, Resident Area, Commercial Zone, Office Zone, Health Zone, Tea Garden, and Agricultural Zone.
The MDDA has posted this master plan at its Dehradun office, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation, and the District Magistrate’s office, where Dehradun residents can view it and file objections to any encroachment on the lands or any other complaint within one month.
The residential area of Dehradun has grown by over 18% as a result of this master plan. In light of a projected population of 25 to 30 lakhs by 2041, it has been suggested to raise the residential area to 58.43%.
Some key features of the digital master plan (in general) include:
- Development of new residential and commercial areas: The master plan proposes the development of new residential and commercial areas to accommodate the city’s growing population.
- Improved transportation infrastructure: The master plan proposes the development of new road networks, public transport systems, and pedestrian and cycling infrastructure to improve connectivity within the city.
- Conservation of natural resources: The master plan proposes measures to conserve the city’s natural resources such as water bodies, forests, and wildlife.
- Disaster management: The master plan proposes measures to mitigate the impact of natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and earthquakes.
- Heritage conservation: The master plan proposes measures to preserve the city’s heritage buildings and sites.
A digital master plan can lead to more effective and sustainable development by providing better data management, improved visualization, enhanced stakeholder participation, increased efficiency, and better communication.
