RIEGL’s Ultimate LiDAR Technology New Products Launch at INTERGEO 2024
RIEGL’s Ultimate LiDARTM Technology offers a wide range of performance characteristics and serves as a platform for continuing Innovation in 3D for the LiDAR industry. New products, that will be announced at this year’s INTERGEO in Stuttgart, Germany, are highlighted below.
RIEGL VQ-1560 III-S
Dual Channel Waveform Processing Airborne LiDAR Scanning System
The VQ-1560 III-S is the latest successor in the proven RIEGL dual channel laser scanning system series, suitable for a wide field of applications in airborne mapping.
The well-established “cross-fire” scan pattern enables a forward and backward view to the edges of the swath and a nadir view in the middle of the swath resulting in best point distribution for optimum target sampling. High pulse repetition rates of up to 4.4 MHz allow for operational flying altitudes of up to 1,600 m AGL, or up to 3,900 m AGL at a pulse repetition rate of 560 kHz (all values given for 20% target reflectance).
A high-performance IMU/GNSS unit and one or two optional high resolution RGB/NIR cameras are seamlessly integrated in the compact and user-friendly designed housing.
The excellent scan pattern and its wide operational range make the instrument one of the most versatile airborne laser scanners on the market today. It is perfectly suited for any kind of application; from ultra-dense corridor mapping from low altitudes, over high-resolution city mapping with minimum shadowing effects in narrow street canyons, to large-scale wide area mapping at utmost efficiency of up to 1,130 km² per hour at a density of 4 points per square meter.

RIEGL VZ-4000i-25
Long Range 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanner
With the VZ-4000i-25 RIEGL now present the long-range version scanner of their latest generation of professional terrestrial laser scanners. It stands for an increase in productivity, reliability in performance, extreme versatility and new forms of connectivity– resulting in an excellent return of investment.
On-board processing, one-touch-button operation, customized workflows and pre-settings, as well as real-time registration enabled by GNSS/IMU provide a fast and efficient workflow from data acquisition to post-processing results. This scanner provides remarkable long-range performance of up to 4,600 m at eye safe operation in laser class 1. The IP64 certification ensures that it can be used in harsh environments. RIEGL’s Ultimate LiDAR technology provides multiple-target capability and valuable data attributes for every measurement. The versatility of the scanner allows the use in various applications and survey routines. An internal camera, internal IMU for pose estimation, an optional external GNSS RTK receiver, support for user apps, and pre-installed RIEGL apps are further key features. Integrated WiFi, high-speed data download via TCP/IP, automatic and fast data transfer with CF-express card, cloud data synchronization via internet and exchange formats for further analysis provide brilliant connectivity.
The scanner is ideally suited for applications in mining and topography, but also in cultural and natural heritage documentation. Customized apps (e.g. RIEGL monitoring apps) speed up the workflow in the field but also in post-processing. Specific scan routines and processing sequences can be pre-defined and enable initiating data acquisition, data processing and analyzing with a single click.

RIEGL VUX-100-25
UAV LiDAR Sensor with Extra Large Field of View for Wide Area Coverage
With the VUX-100-25, RIEGL now offers a lightweight and versatile airborne laser scanner with a large field of view of 160 degrees and an high pulse repetition rate of up to 1,500 kHz.
Combined with a measurement rate of up to 1.3 million measurements/sec, a scan speed of up to 200 lines/second, and an operating flight altitude of up to 360 m / 1,200 feet, the sensor provides an extra wide area coverage, which is especially advantageous for applications like mapping of complex terrain and narrow canyons.
The sophisticated design and the low weight of 2.36 kg / 4.4 lbs allows smooth integration on drones, but also on small crewed planes (like gyrocopters) and on helicopters.
The scanner is available as stand-alone UAV-LiDAR sensor, but also in various fully-integrated laser scanning system configurations with appropriate IMU/GNSS system and optional cameras. For customer-specific system solutions by professional system integrators, a special OEM-Version of the RIEGL VUX-100-25, which provides customer specific interfaces and less weight, is provided.

RiLOC-F
RIEGL’s High-Precision IMU/GNSS solution for VUX-series laser scanners
Launched at Intergeo 2023 in Berlin, RIEGL’s RiLOC-E for the miniVUX-series laser scanners has been met with great enthusiasm. This fully integrated subsystem for localization and orientation, directly attached to the RIEGL miniVUX-series laser scanners, is the ideal solution for small-scale LiDAR surveying with drones. Get some first impressions in the video.
Now RIEGL introduces a new high-precision, fully integrated subsystem for localization and orientation. RIEGL’s RiLOC-F IMU/GNSS solution is available for the following two VUX-series laser scanners, the RIEGL VUX-120-23 and the new RIEGL VUX-100-25.
This turnkey solution that fully integrates a high-precision Micro-Electromechanical System (MEMS) Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), a GNSS unit, and RIEGL developed software, provides a simplified user-friendly workflow. Post-processing of both the trajectory and scan data is done fully within RIEGL’s RiPROCESS, eliminating the need for any 3rd party software, and resulting in precisely aligned and consistent point clouds. Completely enclosed within the housing, this entry-level and cost-effective solution is especially suited for applications with uncrewed platforms, like multirotor, fixed-wing, or VTOL drones.
