Hoshiarpur’s Drive for Solar Rooftop Mapping Strengthens Clean Energy Plan

The district administration of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, has entered into a new collaboration with the Bengaluru-based think tank Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP) to advance its clean energy ambitions. The landmark pact aims to bolster the solar rooftop mapping efforts in the region.

Under the memorandum of understanding, CSTEP will develop a detailed climate action plan for Hoshiarpur. The plan includes conducting a digital survey of rooftops and preparing a solar rooftop mapping exercise that estimates solar energy potential across buildings in the district.

The deputy commissioner, Aashika Jain, described the partnership as a historic step toward sustainable development. She said the solar rooftop mapping initiative will support Hoshiarpur’s aim to become Punjab’s first climate-resilient model district.

The solar rooftop mapping exercise is designed to identify rooftops that can accommodate solar panels, assess their potential output, and guide future investments in solar infrastructure. By doing so, the district hopes to enhance energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and strengthen its environmental conservation efforts.

Community participation also features prominently in the strategy. The administration emphasises that citizens’ adoption of cleaner, greener lifestyles will be vital to the success of the solar rooftop mapping programme. The plan includes awareness campaigns and incentives to encourage rooftop solar installations by households and businesses.

With this initiative, Hoshiarpur’s district leadership is signalling a clear shift toward renewable energy and climate resilience. The solar rooftop mapping project not only sets a roadmap for solar deployment but also aligns with broader goals of energy independence and sustainable urban development.

The solar rooftop mapping initiative in Hoshiarpur offers a practical path toward renewable energy adoption, climate resilience and environmental stewardship. As CSTEP and the district administration move ahead, local residents and businesses have the opportunity to be part of this green transition.
