Xiamen Version of Map World to be Launched This Year

china mapChina’s State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping has launched an official online map service called Map World in 2011. It allows users to explore and search for specific locations, and now this online map service is available both in Chinese and English, according to its official website (http://en.tianditu.com/map/index.html).

Given the rapid construction and development in Xiamen and the lag time between updating information on paper maps, Xiamen’s government has decided to develop its own online map service, which will offer detailed and instantly-updated information.

According to Mr. Lu Hailin, chief planner of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Land Resources and Real Estate Management, people can use the online map to search and locate their destinations easily and accurately.

Mr. Lu further explained the public security bureau can set up a crime monitoring platform based on the online map, which can accurately locate the victim via their location when making emergency phone calls.

The Xiamen version of Map World will be connected to the national Map World and the Fujian version of Map World (http://www.fjmap.net/FjgcMap/Client/Default.htm). There are 5 cities in Fujian that already have their own version of Map World, namely Nanping, Sanming, Longyan, Quanzhou and Putian.
